About Martin Kuchar

Martin Kuchar is the CEO and co-founder of BTC Prague, Europe's largest Bitcoin-only conference. He came into Bitcoin in early 2017, cycled through the predictable detours (altcoin mining, trading, burnout) before landing back on Bitcoin-only, and together with his brother Matias turned a 40-person friends' festival into a continent-scale event. He is one of the operators actually building the physical meeting places of the Bitcoin scene in Europe.

BTC Prague is held annually in Prague with three conference days plus a dev/cypherpunk day, a corporate day, and a payday weekend. It draws roughly 12,000 attendees, 200+ speakers and 120+ Bitcoin-only companies. Martin runs it deliberately as a festival, not a trade show, with the thesis that strong shared emotions are what convert attendees into long-term Bitcoin ambassadors.

This conversation is worth watching because Martin doesn't pitch the conference like a marketer; he reasons about it as culture infrastructure. He makes an unusually concrete case for why Czech Republic, shaped by the memory of communism and currency collapses, is currently the most Bitcoin-dense country in Europe, and he connects that to a wider argument about why freedom is only ever understood after it has been taken away.
